Early Life

Sundar Pichai was born on June 10, 1972. His birthplace is Madura, Tamil Nadu, India.

He was born to an Indian Hindu family. His father Regunatha Pichai was an electrical engineer that worked at the British Conglomerate called General Electric Company or GEC.

His father was also a businessman and owner of a manufacturing plant that produced electrical components. His mother’s name was Lakshmi, a stenographer.

Pichai was raised in Ashok Nagar, in Chennai, India.

He attended school in Jawahar Vidyalaya, a Central Board of Secondary Education school in Ashok Nagar, Chennai. He also went to the Indian Institute of Technology Madras where he completed Class XII from Vana Vani School.

Pichai enrolled at the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur and obtained a degree in metallurgical engineering.

He proceeded to the United States and obtained a Master of Science degree in Material Sciences and Engineering from Stanford University. He was also named a Siebel Scholar at this school.

Pichai also holds an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. At this school, he was named a Palmer scholar.

After he graduated from university, Pichai got a job at McKinsey & Company, a management consulting firm. He worked in engineering and product management at Applied Materials and in management consulting.

2004: Sundar Pichai joined Google this year. He was the leader of the product management and innovation team.

His team was responsible for innovating Google’s client software products that also include the popular Google Chrome, Chrome OS, and Google Drive.

Personal Life

Pichai started a relationship with Anjali Pichai while studying at the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.

Pichai left for the US to continue his studies. This did not stop their love as Anjali would later found a job in the US and joined Pichai. Anjali is a Chemical engineer.

Both are married and have two children now. Their son is Kiran Pichai, while their daughter’s name is Kavya Pichai.

Sundar Pichai loves playing football and watching movies. He is a fan of Barcelona football club and his favorite player is Lionel Messi.
