Personal Story

I have an insatiable appetite for reading and in particular books related to personal finance.

I enjoy reading and learning about ways to make money, invest money, save money, etc.

Perhaps, it stems back to the year 1999 when I found myself drowning in debt.

Despite my indebtedness, I felt that I owed it to my wife to take a small weekend excursion and we went to the city of San Francisco for the holiday weekend.

Even then we enjoyed browsing the bookstores and went to a well-known bookstore at the time and I gravitated towards the personal-finance section because of what I was experiencing and being overwhelmed with creditors, overdrawn bank account, and credit card debt, etc.

I found this book or whether the book found me, I don’t know, but it revolutionized my personal-financial life and not only provided powerful teaching moments but was a combination of practical techniques and methods that could be implemented to turn one’s financial condition around.

One of the practical tips that was shared in the book was to keep a financial diary and in that diary write down every financial transaction that was made over some time.

I did it for a month but was so hooked that I continued for several months after.

The diary revealed significant amounts of money that I was spending on needless things and in the spontaneous moment.

The “ah” moment came when I realized that rather than spending this money on foolishness, it could be applied to my debt and help pay down my creditors.

The book revolutionized my personal financial life.
