Is Making Money From Nike Product Testing Legit?

Yes, it is.

Think about it; every brand needs people to make sure that their products are good, whether it be shirts, shoes, or whatever gear.

Nike is no exception, and they do it through their Nike product testing program.

What Is the Nike Testing Program

This is a product testing program where you’re basically the guinea pig, and you get to test their products.

Every single one of these is a prototype, which means it won’t be out in the wild yet.

Sometimes it may never be released either.

You essentially keep a record of the product, fill out surveys, and give feedback.

From saying the shoes were too stiff to even the laces being too frayed, all of this helps Nike make the changes they need for every product.

And the best part?

You get free stuff!

You can go to the Nike Product Testing page to learn more about this opportunity.

How They Figure Out What You’re Eligible for

They usually give you products based on what activities you frequently do.

For example, if you’re a runner, they’ll give you running gear.

If you’re a weightlifter, they might give you weightlifting shoes.

If you are accepted, no matter what, you will need to do some work, and in some cases, they might ask you to return things back so they can look at them.

They also will ask you some questions as well if they need more information.

How to Sign Up for Nike Product Testing

You first need to go to, and from there, you press the button to apply.

Then, you do the following:

  1. Add in your login credentials
  2. Go to the splash page to give you some basic information
  3. Fill out your personal information
  4. Finish the application
  5. Wait for the green light that you’re allowed to participate
  6. Look to see what the test invite entails and then accept it
  7. Get the product
  8. Test it
  9. Submit feedback
  10. Return it to test it if necessary
  11. Repeat

It’s that simple, but it does take a long time, so don’t expect them to just choose you right off the bat.

The Different Nike Product Testing Programs

Nike does have a few different programs for product testing that we’ll go over here.

Remote Testing

Remote testing is usually done with an online application, and then you test the products.

Once that’s finished, you then send back the product and the information that you have regarding the product.

In most cases, with this kind of remote testing, you do have to bring the product back, but in other cases, you can keep it!

Shoe testing is one of the types of testing options out there.

For the most part, these are done both on-site and remote testing, however, for kids, the testing is just remote

Essentially, you get shoes and need to test them out for about three months, doing whatever activities possible with them.

You will need to detail how long you wear them, what days you do and don’t, and anything you’ve noticed.

You do send them back using prepaid shipping, but you may also get to keep this in some cases.

Similar to the shoe testing, you get to wear various Nike clothing, including:

  • Shirts
  • Shorts
  • Jackets
  • Leggings

And other athletic products.

They aren’t as long as the shoes since it doesn’t require that much time to test.

Instead, they’re usually an evaluation program that tells them about wearing them.

You may not get to keep these either, but it’s also dependent on the type of testing done.

This is where you physically go to the testing facilities with the shoes that you have or the clothing that you want to wear, and then you wear it there, giving feedback.

This is usually just a few hours duration rather than a few weeks or months like with shoes or shirts.

They don’t say on their site whether or not you’re compensated, so you might want to ask if you are accepted.

Usually, you wear them at the facilities, then give feedback, and it’s essentially a focus group testing on how it feels.

If you like Nike and have wanted to see what the inside of a facility is like, then, by all means, apply to this and see if it’s right for you.

You can mention on your applications as well if you’re close enough to do the testing.

Eligibility for Nike Product Testing

So, who is eligible for this?

It’s actually not that strict of a program, but there are four pieces of criteria that the Nike testers look for when they are looking for people to test Nike products.

The four criteria that are usually looked at include the following:

  • The location-since if you’re not in a country that sponsors this, you’re not eligible
  • Measurements-they’ll send you products that fit your body type and if they don’t have something for you, they won’t reach out
  • Activities-you have to be active to participate in this. They usually want a variety of different activities as well, so don’t be afraid to mention anything unique you do
  • Ages-Nike does have different age brackets for product testing

The criteria seems pretty straightforward, but also remember that you might not be eligible for something at the moment if they don’t have anything for your age group or the activities you enjoy.

Age Groups for Nike Product Testing

There are three different age groups that they divide everyone into for Nike product testing.

But that means that you’re not necessarily barred from participating for being “too old” either.

They want a variety of people, a variety of ages.

However, there are three different types, and they include:

  • Adults over the age of 18
  • Teens 13-17
  • Kids 12 and under

Nike has apparel for a variety of people to enjoy, which makes sense why they might ask for kids’ feedback with testing.

If you want to sign up, they do have different eligibility forms.

Location is also a factor in choosing athletes to participate in this.

Right now, it’s available to people in 37 countries, but that doesn’t mean that everyone is accepted.

Nike really only takes people from countries where they have a large following, so while you might be eligible because your country is on the list, Nike might not choose you for this project.

The countries that are eligible for this immediately are:

  • Canada
  • Japan
  • Italy
  • Mexico
  • China

But even if you’re not in one of those countries, you can still be a part of this.

Remember, Nike is a global name, so it’d be silly for them to ignore their global markets, but also understand why they might not choose you right off the bat.

Measurements are important for testing, which should be obvious.

You’re going to be wearing it, and they want accurate measurements.

Something that’s “too small” might be because of improper measurements.

They are going with exact foot-height measurements.

You also need to take measurements of certain areas, the bust-hips-waist measurements.

How to Do This

For the chest, you want to measure from the widest part of the area, measuring the muscles of the chest.

For women, it is usually done with bust size, where the tape measure is done underneath where your breasts are.

You then measure the waist, which is the most narrow portion, typically by the belly button.

Finally, you do the hips, which are the widest part of your pelvic bones.

You obviously will need to include your shoe size too for shoes.

Typically, they don’t ask for inseam or shoulder measurements, but they may follow up if they have questions.

The Membership Program

Once you do get accepted, you do get to choose whether you want to do the testing or not.

And of course, once you finish this, you give this back to Nike, and they’ll also send you questions about this, and how they perform.

You might need to give the apparel and shoes back, and you need to do this before the due date, otherwise you might have to pay for the shoes.

In some cases, if you refuse to give them back, they’ll ban you from the program.

They also do annual evaluations of the testers, and they’ll look at how you did.

If you’ve been an asset, you’re kept around for the next year.

But if the testing isn’t up to par, you might be removed.

So that’s why, if you choose to do this, you need to be on the ball, and be ready to follow the steps mentioned in the directions.

How to Get Free Shoes With Nike Product Testing FAQs

Can I Be a Nike Product Tester if I’m Outside of the Us?

You can, you are allowed to join, but you should always check the T&C before you choose to apply to see if there are any caveats to be wary of.

If you’re not in the countries listed, you cannot be since they’re not looking for testers in those markets.

What Do Nike Product Testers Look for?

They look for people who fit the demographic of testing they’re doing.

So, they’ll look for people in the age bracket they want to test and also in the areas and markets they want to sell in.

They also look at your activity, so being honest about what you do is important.

There is no one activity that trumps another, they’re all evaluated, and you might be chosen based on one factor or another.

Overall, they want people who are really active, since they want to see if the products hold up.

If you can show you can really extend the gear to its limits, you will probably get chosen.

How Long Do I Have to Wait?

This ultimately depends on what they need.

They go through a flood of applicants usually, to the point where new applications usually aren’t accepted.

They usually want really active athletes, and for the most part, it’s essentially waiting for one of them to talk to you.

There is no set wait, you could be waiting weeks, even months, before a response to whether your application is good or not.

How Am I Compensated?

You’re compensated to try on their shoes and test them for them.

There is no monetary compensation, and they usually don’t pay for testers to do this.

There might be the occasional campaign that they have that does pay, but for the most part, it only is a paid test if you’re an on-site tester since it does require them to come and spend their time there.

Remote testing is free products that you get.

Do They Offer Apparel Testing for Kids?

They do!

They offer apparel testing for kids, and usually, they get some great clothing and shoe opportunities to try and test.

For the most part, though, they are under the same conditions as the adult testing program, so make sure to keep that in mind when signing up for this.

Nike product testing is a great way to get some free Nike gear and to represent a brand that you like.

If you enjoy Nike and are an active individual, then you will benefit from this program, and it might be something you want to sign up for!
