    • Thanks for your comment, Darrell.

About how certain plugins can slow your page speed, the good thing is that there are ways to find which plugins are problematic if anyone is having problems of too many plugins.

They can use a free tool called P3 (Plugin Performance Profiler). It’s able to scan any WordPress site to find which plugins are causing slow performance.

    • Hi Shirley,

Thanks for reading and commenting on this post.

It’s true some plugins are known to have conflicts with other plugins. Did you contact the plugin developers for help?

Many of them provide support to those who use their plugins, even W3 Total Cache.

  2. Hi Dave

Thanks for sharing these tips for the best WordPress plugins. Despite blogging for 2 years I am now only just beginning to realise how important some of these are.

I do have most of these and have considered Thrive too.

I use Hootsuite instead of Buffer, what is your opinion on Hootsuite?

  3. Hi Dave,
It is indeed a great joy to meet you on the pages of Kingged.
Happy to read this informative piece.
Plugins are very essential for our daily blogging, except one or two most of them i am using on my page, for security i am using WordFence.
Another thing i noticed with plugin is that it is an updated one or not. If its not an outdated one surely we will face lot of problems with our pages. I experienced this myself and later removed all plugins to restore the things normal.

As Ali Rand said more plugins will reduce our page speed.
I am still confused about the total number of plugins one can use in the webpages.

    Thanks for sharing this information.
    Keep sharing
    Best Regards
    ~ Philip

  4. Hi Dave,

    Thanks for sharing these plugins.

I can’t stress the importance of Akismet enough. It saved me several hours I used to spend deleting spam comments. It’s hard to imagine it’s still free to use for small blogs.

    Great post.

  5. Hi Dave, thank you so much for sharing! There’s quite a few plugin that I haven’t heard of. Especially the security plugin, I thought the Antivirus software in my computer would to the trick. (I still have lot to learn…)

Thanks again, I’ve learned a lot.

  6. That’s a well thought out list that covers a lot of essential functions without adding too much bloat to your site.

I’ve tested several SEO plugins and I think Yoast is the most comprehensive and easiest to use. Don’t forget to create an XML sitemap as that is very important. I’ve always used a separate plugin to do that, but Yoast can do it as well.

I hadn’t come across Sucuri before. I use an alternative called iThemes Security which seems to work well. It even changes the slug of the log in screen so that is much harder to find.

Just make sure you don’t use a one-click install gimmick which leaves the user name as “admin” – if you do that, you will be at greatly increased risk of hacking no matter which plugin you use.

  7. Hi, Dave

I have most of the plugins. I have W3 Total cache, Jetpack, and Akismet. I use All-in-One instead of SEO Yoast. I had SEO Yoast before, and think it’s the better plugin.

I went with All-in-One only because I started having problems with the SEO Yoast plugin. Maybe It was after an upgrade, I should probably check and see if I can run it again smoothly.

I should add Buffer, too, so I can schedule my posts on social media. I tend to do it manually. Too tedious.

  8. Hi,

Very late reply here – but I read this post to try and find an alternative to Akismet – because (despite using the paid version) it just hasn’t been performing for me – holding for moderation the most blatant spam that should be deleted immediately!

Anyway – reading through the comments it seems that WP-spam shield is one to try, so thanks for the suggestion.
