First things first…

Sometimes we just need a new start in life.

It’s too bad that there isn’t a ctrl/alt/del combination, as in a computer, that we could just press this combination of keys on the keyboard, and it would bring us to a screen that will allow us to reboot the system.

Fortunately, or unfortunately, in life, there is no magical combination of “keys” that can be pressed.

However, opportunities do arise when it seems that we have the option of having a do-over.

It is like in the world of golf when you make a bad swing and you can, in a non-tournament situation, ask for a Mulligan or a do-over.

For the individual, such opportunities can present themselves to allow us to press the control alt delete buttons or ask for a Mulligan and we have an open door that allows us to walk through or “drive-through”, towards a new start.

Wouldn’t it be incredible if we could present Mulligans during our lives as an opportunity for a do-over?

Perhaps such an opportunity is available through funded programs offered by a variety of states that will offer incentives for an individual to relocate.

One such state is the state of Arkansas.

Personal Story

One of the big fundraisers that we had during my non-profit days was the hosting of a golf tournament.

We would approach companies who would buy golfing packages for members of the company and other golfers.

The company would enjoy a day out on the links competing with other golfers and enjoying the playing of 18 holes.

One of the ways that we would raise additional funds would be to purchase tickets to compete in the putting contest, raffle coupons for the silent auction, and allow the teams to purchase Mulligans.

The selling of Mulligan’s was the best way of generating income outside of the actual entrance fee and was an opportunity for golfers to present their Mulligan card when the golf stroke and driving the ball was not quite what was anticipated.

It was an opportunity for a better swing.

10 Best Tips to Help You Get Paid to Move to Arkansas

1. Life Works Here Initiative

Attention all recent graduates, families, individuals looking to change careers, entrepreneurs, artists, and more, Arkansas is calling.

Their Life Works Here Initiative is an employee relocation program in which an incentive is being offered for individuals to move to Arkansas.

Specifically, the Northwest part of Arkansas includes Benton and Washington Counties and is home to the cities of Fayetteville and Bentonville.

Bentonville is the headquarters of the huge retailer Walmart.

2. Purpose

The purpose of this incentivized calling of Arkansas to join their community is to lure top employee talent and professionals to their region.

With this initiative, they are anticipating that these professionals will be like an economic and business magnet that will attract other professionals as well as companies that will meld together to form a thriving and vibrant local economy.

3. Jobs

Currently, this area of Arkansas is exploding and has to offer over 10,000 employment opportunities.

The challenge is having qualified individuals fill these significant employment positions.

4. Remote Workers

Also, an individual would be qualified for the program if they stayed in their current job but were able to work remotely with their employer.

This forward-thinking initiative is banking on individuals wishing to embrace a slower-paced lifestyle and still maintain their current position or start a new career path by joining something exciting and creative that is happening in Northwest Arkansas.

5. Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate that would be a strong contender for the limited number of opportunities for relocation available would be classified as professionals and entrepreneurs associated with the STEAM program.

The acronym STEAM stands for science, technology, engineering, arts, and math.

Individuals whose profession, education, and experience fall into these categories would be prime candidates.

The applicant will have their skills reviewed by a panel to see if it is a right match in relationship to the area’s needs and goals.

The challenge is not just to find quality individuals, but the successful applicant will bring an added dimension of bringing energy and vibrancy to their new relocated community.

The application can be accessed by clicking here.

6. How Selected

A review panel of professional citizens in the community gather together to pour over the various applications by potential candidates.

Each of the candidates is evaluated on their merit-based off on the application.

From that process rises a pool of candidates that will be interviewed and then, subsequently, awards will be provided to selected applicants.

7. Qualifications

To be considered for eligibility, the applicants must understand that their relocation is required to move to this part of Arkansas.

This relocation, upon acceptance, needs to occur within six months of being officially notified that they have been approved for the program.

Also, the individual must enter into a lease agreement with a homeowner or rental management agency.

Also, if the individual takes action to purchase a home this would qualify.

The individual must be at least 24 years of age and demonstrate two years of experiential workforce involvement.

They must also demonstrate experience in remotely working with their current company or previous company or demonstrate their entrepreneurial spirit through self-employment.

The individual also must reside outside the state of Arkansas and be a U.S. Citizen or have the needed documentation to show their eligibility to work legally in the United States.

9. Couples

Unlike other initiatives across the United States, only one grant can be awarded per household.

Other members of the household may meet the qualification standards but would not be eligible.

10. How Many Awards?

The current initiative is in its inaugural year and may or may not be renewed for the ensuing years.

The decision of possibly renewing this initiative will be determined once the successful actions of the program are reviewed and feedback in regards to the purpose and goal of the program being met.

As of this writing, 29,000 individuals have applied for the program.

Officials involved with the project are indicating that a significant number of individuals will be awarded the money but quickly added that they are not sure how far the money will stretch for the qualified applicants.

The actual incentive of a bicycle being awarded to the individual as part of the package is a $600 voucher that can be deemed at any of the local bicycle shops.

The voucher can be redeemed for a bicycle or any other equipment that the local bicycle shop may offer to their customers.

9. What About State and Local Taxes?

The local tax rates vary as to where the individual takes up their residency.

Specific tax rates and more information about the tax structure and assessments can be found by clicking here.

10. Cost of Living

The other monetary benefit provided to the individual that relocates to the counties of Washington or Benton is the cost of living associated with residing in this area.

Specifically, the average income for an employed individual is 14% higher than the national average.

The other favorable benefits include the beautiful outdoor lifestyle that is afforded, a nationally recognized area as it relates to food and culture, and also, a wonderful opportunity to perhaps escape the hustle and bustle and stress of one’s current living and employment situation.

Also, an added economic advantage is an extremely low unemployment rate coming in at 2.8%.
