Whether it is the website or any software, its security is a must. No program is 100% secure and that is why we need to employ some measures so that the same is protected from the hackers. In the present time, most of the websites are being designed using WordPress and this has definitely attracted the hackers towards them. Despite adopting various security approaches many websites have been prone to hacking thus becoming a question of worry for the website owners. If you too are facing a similar problem, you have come to the right place.

Importance of Securing Your WordPres Website

WordPress is rapidly growing its foothold and has recently crossed one-fourth of the total global website market share. With such a huge user base, WordPress is constantly under security threats from hackers. WordPress being such a popular CMS is the first choice of business owners all over the world. They use this powerful platform for the development of their company’s website. A website acts as the face of a company and enables any business owner to create a brand image in the minds of the customers.  A security breach of any form can be dangerous as it would have a negative impact on the rapport of your company in the global market. Your company’s website will leave a first impression on your customers. So, it is of utmost importance to get that first impression right. There is no point having a website that is not secure as it would keep your customer’s information as well as your business at stake. In order to ensure that your website is fully secured, here are some of the tips that you can follow. Upgrade your website regularly

Most of the people tend to compromise with this aspect and this is whether they give hackers the chance to hack their website. So make sure your website is upgraded to the latest version along with the themes as well as the plugins. It is because the newer versions come with better and additional features that can help you to prevent any kind of hacking. Upgrading will also enable you to fix any of the security bugs that are present on the current version.  This is the reason that one should update it at the earliest so that you can keep away from all sorts of problems and ensure your website is fully secured.

Selection of the right plugins

There are numerous types of WordPress plugins that you will come across but not all of them are worth and fully secure. That is why it becomes necessary to choose the best one. If you have installed a weak plugin there are high chances that your website may get prone to hackers. Hackers can also embed codes in it so that the ranking of your website may come down. Thus it will be wise if you can protect your website and choose the plugins which are new as well as strong. This is the only way through which you can protect your website.

Disable directory browsing

This is yet another crucial aspect which can help in ensuring that your website is fully protected. If you enable directory browsing then you are allowing unauthorized users to get hold of your website and you will definitely not want this to happen. So it is important that the same is to be disabled. In order to disable it, all you need to do is to upload an HTML file which is completely blank both in the directory as well as the subdirectory. Together with it, you can use a security plugin too which can add to the security of the website.

Login screen security

Another thing that you can do is to keep your login screen secure. In this way, it will be difficult for the hackers to reach the dashboard and make unauthorized use of the same. That is why you need to keep the login screen protected along with having a secure username and password too. A better approach can be to limit the login number from the single sources thus keep the website protected to a large extent. Make sure you have the captchas as well which to work as a security tool. Using a strong password that is a combination of alpha numerals and symbols will keep the hackers at bay. So making a few changes can help you a lot in making sure that your website is secure in every way.

Prevention is the key

Apart from using WordPress security plugins or strong username/password you need to have an updated antivirus installed on your device. This will help you to fight with all kinds of viruses that can have an adverse effect on the website. Also, it will prevent the damage as well which is caused by worms and other infected files. Backup is the next way that you can do to combat the security problems and use it in times of need. Make sure you use the latest version of the themes as they are more secure and can provide better options to fight with the security issues.

These are the 5 ways you can keep your website secure and safeguard. Security is definitely a big concern so rather than compromising with it, you can adopt the above ways which are easy to employ and ensure better results as well.

It is all about how you go about as security depends on the approaches that you integrate. Make sure you follow the given tips as these are highly useful and can help you to achieve the purpose too. So why stay behind when you can make your WordPress websites fully secured with the above tips that are so easy to try.

Hi Philip, thank you for sharing this great post!

There’s something I’m not quite understand. Would you mind telling us more about Disable directory browsing?

I know how to upload a HTML file to server, but what does it mean by uploading to directory as well as the subdirectory? Which folders should I upload to?

    Thanks again for sharing!

    Hey Philip,

Thanks for sharing your article with us!

I’ve got my blog based on the WP, and there’s a bunch of plugins installed.
You’ve mentioned that it’s necessary to install “strong” plugins only. So I’ve got a question.

How can I understand what plugins are secure enough to install and what are not?

    Thank you.
