Internet Marketing Automation- How To Do It Right

Profile photo of ImPretty Submitted by ImPretty April 3, 2014 Website : www.webtrafficroi.com

Let’s face it, online marketing takes a lot of time. Keyword research, creating rank-worthy content, getting that content shared through social media, and building links are all tasks that can suck up a huge amount of time. They can easily take up 40 hours/week each. But still, small business owners, bloggers, and marketers consistently leave all these tasks to one person for one reason or another. But how do they do it? One word– automation.

Putting Online Marketing On Autopilot

When I talk about automation, I’m referring to anything you do that’s handled with by software and/or bots. There are tools available to handle almost every aspect of an online marketing campaign. PPC advertising, keyword research, content marketing and other tasks can all be automated in some way.

Automation makes it possible to get more work done in less time. Online marketing naturally lends itself to automation because it requires a lot of small, and somewhat menial tasks that can be extremely boring. Who really wants to go through and manually find hundreds of keywords, sign up for dozens of social bookmarking sites, or post to every individual social media site?

    Dominique, fab points!

Far and away, I agree with your advice to never set it and forget it. You’ll be doomed on the social front. People will think you’re a bot.

I prefer to set it, and hop back in to engage daily. I’m huge on hootsuite pro; I’m even an affiliate and that’s a big deal because I’ve only used a few products long enough and trust them enough to partner in on them.

As for automating, be human too. Make updates interesting, intriguing, and entertaining, but most of all, do what it takes to manually engage, or to at least engage through tools here and there to prove that you are a person, not a bot.

Doing this will do wonders for your brand.

It will also give your fingers a break, and your rep a boost 😉

To tag along with Ryan, these are fabulous points! Many desire to deal with automation, but for best results, it is important to make the automation get a human face. The idea of not automating important tasks is very crucial for online success.

I think every marketer needs this guide. Its actionable and could very well improve productivity.

Internet marketing is one of the most useful and important strategy in achieving sales goals faster and easier. I also agree with Ryan, you’re right in saying “Don’t set it and forget it…” We should always monitor the tasks that we are automating. Automation can be a bad thing. Just see how SEO has changed as the years goes by. Let us do what it takes to be manually engaged, although we are automated, it is the most important of all.

So true, we can’t keep on doing things like we used to. I liked the way the article is crafted, starting with how not to automate SEO and ending with how to automate SEO.

Agreed, social sharing needs to be automated as it will save post article time. Keyword research and social media updates needs to be automated as it is just better this way. Ah! guest posting, man let’s do it manually for traffic and not for backlinks.

Hello Dominique, I really enjoyed your post, you are so right about online marketing being a lot of work Yikes I was just talking about this yesterday in a comment :)

I have used Hootesuite a few times only to find out that the posts never even went out, I know I did something wrong but my point is that if you are going to automate you still need to go in and do some follow up on everything.

I do agree there are a few things we can automate to lighten up our work load and do appreciate your suggestions here.. Thanks Chery :))

Nice topic mate, There are lot of task to be done while marketing online. To complete all the tasks on time we often use some automated software and bots, they are the best timer-saver when we have too busy and have to complete the given task on TAT, but some time there are some negative results too.

Like automatic back-linking or directory submission software posts links fine but they don’t know which site they are posting. It is necessary to check the consumer reviews and company repo of such software and tools.

Some bots are real harmful too, like they work in such a brutal way that your IP will get banned. So we need to be very careful while using such bots and always track it. Don’t start automated software and forget it coz you may face huge problem. Keep tracking on automated software regularly.

I use them sometimes for saving my time but I feel great being Human not that automated bots. :)
