How to Nail Your Opening

Profile photo of Sunday Submitted by Sunday February 8, 2014 Website:

That’s what happens when you write a great headline, get scores of people to open your post, but then bore them with a lame opening.

They leave, and you accomplished nothing … except making them less likely to ever believe one of your headlines is worth clicking on ever again.

That’s why it’s essential that you nail the opening of your blog posts. To do so, you must open with a bang.

Want to learn how? Come hang out with me and Demian for 15 minutes and we’ll explain it to you.

    Hi Jerod!

The podcast/audio you share is informative. My opinion is that we can use several tricks to nail our audience on our opening just like what other blogger shared that jokes are great, it will help to cut the boring and serious topic. Using also internet memes is what I wanted to put forward, it will make your content witty and creative. You are right about the quotes.

Having a great headline is very infective. Most writers or content creators have perfected the art so well and you can tell this from their click through rate.

However, it sure would be worth it hanging out with the LEDE team for 15 minute and learn more about how to achieve a bang opening with a headline!

Short sentences in the beginning can encourage an average reader to want to read the beginning atleast, then if you can grab his attention you bet he will continue to the end.

Post openings are very important just as the title, your title may be great but if your few introductory lines don’t catch and keep your visitor, they may bounce off quickly. So you must ensure to write a compelling opening just as you have explained in this post.

Before I listen to the podcast. Lemme guess – the secret to a good opening is the element of surprise? Sorta shock the reader and/or intrigue them into wanting to know more?

I like Jon Morrow’s analogy of a street performer needing to keep peoples’ attention from the first word to the last word on the post.

Anyhoo … Can’t wait to listen to the podcast now. Talk soon
