Having free organic search traffic is one of the best ways to make money running an online business. The Internet is a great platform for people just starting out because of the low barriers to entry and the small costs to start.

Online businesses can also be scaled easily since there are no geographical barriers and your customers can be drawn from any corner of the planet.

One of the best ways to make money online is to become an internet marketer.

You can easily transition from your job to full-time self-employment through internet marketing if you are dedicated enough and put in the time to build a solid internet marketing business.

You earn money as an internet marketer by promoting your products and services or by promoting affiliate products.

Building a blog is a proven strategy to succeed as an internet marketer.

There are several blogs on the web right now. To stand out, you’ll need to offer something unique and establish yourself as an authority.

Here are some of the things you need to do to build an authority blog:

Build a Site Using WordPress

WordPress is one of the best content management systems available right now and can be used to create almost any kind of website or blog.

As a beginner, you don’t want to waste a lot of time working on things like web design and coding various functionalities from scratch.

Your time will be better spent on activities that actually put your content and message in front of your clients.

WordPress has a lot of stuff already built in so you won’t have to worry about these things.

You can just choose one of the many free or premium templates, install it and you’ll be in business.

WordPress also comes with several plugins that are beginner friendly and will help you with things like SEO, creating sitemaps, formatting your posts, ensuring site security, backing your site, and others.

There is a WordPress plugin for almost any technical bit of web development that might cause trouble for a beginner.

Write Fantastic Content

To be a successful blogger, you have to provide tremendous value to your readers.

Doing this requires mastering the art of writing helpful and actionable content and also presenting it well.

Fantastic content is thorough and useful pieces that your readers want to read, not content that you want to learn. Do not make the mistake of thinking that you know what your readers want.

Carrying out effective market research is critical to the success of any business.

Online businesses are not exempted from this reality.

After knowing what your readers want, you need to write good content addressing those issues.

Long-form content tends to perform better than short articles in search.

You also cover more details in an extended article than a short one. Aim for 1500 words and above if you are trying to rank for a competitive keyword.

Present your content well. Make your content easy to scan since most people do not read an entire post but just skim through it. You can do this by using images, subheads, and sound bites.

Build an Editorial Calendar

You need an editorial calendar for two reasons:

1. Sets expectations and lets your readers know when to expect new posts.

2. Productivity: without some structure, you will not get much done.

To consistently meet expectations as far as content frequency is concerned, your readers should know exactly when to expect new content from you. An editorial calendar will help you achieve this.

With an editorial calendar, you will also have the publishing process mapped out.

You will know when to brainstorm for ideas, when to write content, when to edit it and when and where to publish content.

Promote Content

The two most important activities a business engages in are:

> Product creation

> Marketing

You may build the world’s best blog (product), but if you do not let the world know about it (marketing), your work is all in vain.

Content promotion is so important that you should spend 20 percent of your time producing content and 80 percent promoting the content on your site.

Luckily for you, the Internet makes content promotion very simple.

Here are some simple ways to improve your content:

Email influencers: the easiest way to get new readers to your blog is to have someone who already has your readers to send them to you.

Influencers in your industry already have your readers. Build relationships with them and you will have access to the biggest pool of potential users.

Social media: social media is a useful and easy to use tool for content promotion. You can promote the content on your social media profiles or contact people who have shared similar content.

Link to your sources: when you link to other sites and let them know about the mention, they’ll be more receptive to requests to share your content.

Build an Email List

One of the best communication strategies you can employ as a blogger is email marketing. Building an email list should, therefore, be one of the first things on your to-do list.

The ROI on email marketing is huge.

You can quickly build authority and expand your network by consistently offering massive value to people via email.

An email list will also allow you to push your products to people who already know and trust you. Your conversion rates will be way better with an email list.

Conclusion

Your blog will flourish when you build it on a strong foundation.

By choosing the right CMS (content management system), developing a good content strategy, and using techniques that have been proven to work to promote your content, your success is almost assured.

The key is to keep the main thing the main thing. Authority blogs focus on delivering tremendous value to their readers.

      Hi Sunday!

Well, this was a guest post from my friend Christopher on my blog, actually. He really shared some great tips on starting an internet marketing blog!

If anyone is very interested in building an internet marketing blog online – the information needed is already all laid out here!

Learning what you need to know, in order to build a successful internet marketing blog, and any type of blog for that matter, is not a big challenge. I find the consistent action need, a more challenging thing for most newbies here.

That is why having a Passion for what you are getting yourself into is very important. Because, you will really need that drive and that energy to keep on moving forward no matter what!

But yeah, the WordPress Platform is, in my opinion, the best free CMS Platform on the blogging world, right now. I don’t see anyone else beating them – ever! LOL 😉

Thank you for passing by and leaving a comment man!

      Have a wonderful week! 😀

Great advice. Many newcomers have a hard time with blogging. As you’ve stated, writing great content and providing value is key. The most important tip I can give, is to brand yourself. It’s like picking an image, or personality that you want to deliver your content in. This helps establish a relationship and makes the audience relate to you on a different level. Excellent post!

    Hey Freddy,

All beginners should pay attention to this post.

You laid out some vital actions to take when it comes to doing productive internet marketing and blogging.

When I first enter the blogging scene, I only focused on blog post publishing and I did this for a number of years. I got decent traffic but that was about it.

Each part must be focused on, especially blog promotion and email list building. Being everywhere your target market is, getting your posts promoted by influence, and using email to build trust goes a long way.

    Great share Freddy!

Really useful post answering one of the most popular questions in the sphere of Internet marketing.

Editorial Calendar is extremely important – I totally agree that it helps to make your working process well-organized!

Email list is as well a crucial point. What do you think about working with email subscribers? Do you have a separate list with the key components of a good email newsletter?

Personally I use interesting and relevant content to inform readers about the most recent events within the sphere of digital marketing, content management, etc.

    Hello Freedom Blogger,

This is a great post and the process is simple to follow.
Now, this bit really spoke to me,
“As a beginner, you don’t want to waste a lot of time working on things like web design and coding various functionalities from scratch.

Your time will be better spent on activities that actually put your content and message in front of your clients.”

How true is that? I am sure we have all thought or have run into someone who thought that WordPress just won’t cut it.
To that I say, Prove it.
I am very impressed with what people can do to a WordPress site, and with the community of experts that use WordPress, you will be able to resolve any issue with a quick Google search.

Hence, I am in support of Sherman Smith (Shermansmith75) on this!

However, I must say that these are just tips on the essentials of making blog.

It does not go in depth on how to make a good Internet marketing blog!

A good Internet marketing blog should have the relevant parts dealing with content creation, Interface design, and content promotion.

-A good content in the form of text, video, podcast, infographic, etc is needed to make a great blog.

-A good interface design is needed to increase user experience.

-A solid promotional channel makes it easier to spread the word about a blog!

If a persons wants to make a damn good Internet marketing blog, then these elements must be in place!

The making of a successful Internet marketing blog goes beyond creating content and designing the pages.

Promotion of the site also matters, and this why an effective SEO tactic as well as social media best practices should be deployed for online success.

The use of WordPress to build a good blog is possible. However, building a blog around a specific niche gives better chance of success!

Making a fantastic blog sounds very enticing, but sometimes it is not as easy as it sounds. I really like the ideas that you have provided here, and I think in order to become a successful internet marketer, you have to establish yourself as an authority.

One of the best ways to do that you is to become well known by providing relevant free information in the form of a blog.

Now there are tons of people in this niche trying to accomplish the same thing, so you have to be creative in the way you promote the content that you create, and the content itself should be unique.

    Hey Freddie,

Fantastic reading and stable experience about internet marketing and making money online process, I can`t find enough words to thank you.

Totally agreeing with you in terms of the best way to earn an online income is driving organic traffic to your blog. However building a blog that is appeal for search engine traffic is not an easy task for the majority of marketers.

The blogging is one of the fundamental tools of all Internet marketers. It isn’t a trendy tool that only a few tech-savvy users will pick up.

    Thanks

    Hi Freddie,

Great article, thanks for sharing. I especially like the 80/20 rule as for as content creation. I’ve heard that before. 20% of your time should be spent on creating new content while 80% of your time should be spent on promoting the content.

I see you suggest talking to people that have influence on your topics to get the word out about your articles. Do you find networking with others in the niche to be important?

Thanks for sharing my friend. I loved your article on setting up a wordpress blog. I think I will be going back to that soon as I am in the process of starting a blog.

    Take care,

    John

Oh, yeah – right! try to include the whole of blogging in a single post. lol

A good effort, though. Four key areas to focus on. The top one, for any type of blog, will always be the content. If the content sucks, nothing else will help. If the content is outstanding, it almost drives itself. Almost.

I have tried many times to start my own blog without having to write the content myself, It never turned out to even close to what I would call successful.

I’m not good at writing content for anything and it makes me cringe to even read my own responses to posts sometimes.

I like reading articles where you guys make it look so easy! It reminds me if I keep learning how to bypass my weak points with others strong ones, I might be able to make it to the level I want to be on.

Thank’s for the post, I searched this with the search tool and had to see what was behind the title. I think I need to find something a bit more detailed with baby steps!

Looks like you have covered someof the top points on building a successful blog. One thing I might add is to remain engaged with my readership in the for of comments. What I mean is to allow comments on each post and as much as feasable to respond to the sensibleones.

I’ve noticed that bloggers who do this gain a large following fast and that following is also very responsive.
