Avatar of xian Submitted by xian August 1, 2014 Website: www.problogger.net

Although not everybody wants to make money from their blog, it is undoubtedly the goal for many. To make a living from writing at home often features high on the list of dream jobs! I’m lucky enough to have just published a book which got to number one in the charts, sold a business, as well as running a couple of businesses today, and most of the success can be put down to blogging. I wanted to share some of the tips that helped me first of all get the book published, and secondly, how blogging helped it to the top of the book charts. The book is called Get Shit Done and if you start using these tips that is exactly what you will be able to do. Hopefully you too can turn your blog into a bestselling book…

10 Steps To Help Turn Your Blog Into A Number 1 Bestselling Book

Find your niche

The really good blogs focus on one thing and they do it well. It doesn’t matter if you are a pig farmer in Russia, or a fashion student in New York, because whatever you do you will have an audience. The biggest mistake that most people make is they try and be to generalist and start straying away from their topics in order to get more traffic. Even though things won’t explode in terms of visitors at the very start, if you keep on doing what you are doing and writing in your niche with authority, you will eventually see the results and the audience grow.

    Hi Niall,

These are really great tips and see them as very valuable and practical! There are lots of authors that aren’t utilizing the power of blogging to promote their blogs.

It could be that they have not really considered the power of blogging or that they don’t do the right things.

I guess these tips would serve as a tune up for many that cares to turn their blogs to number 1 selling book :D

One of the tips that really got me thinking is the 70/30 Social Rule. It is very practical and I am sure your experience and the results you gained would be replicated!

    Hi Niall,

I think the biggest mistake people make is forsaking the “real” world. I’m a huge advocate of the web; blogging, social media, aggregators, connecting with influential bloggers, etc.

Here is the reality of it… all business comes from those who feel the know, like and trust us.

That’s why almost all my income comes from the offline world. It takes time online to establish that in my work and I’m okay with that. I’m in it for the long haul. Yet, the online world and what I do validates my offline prospects opinions of me. Social proof is a big deal and when they see a hundred comments on my articles that means something to them.

While it takes time to establish the target market online and start generating sales in my business, the referrals and relationships I get offline are critical. In fact, taking those relationships online has been huge when we get to interact in both worlds. I have had introductions made to me from my offline world to their people online.

So, it’s not a forsake one for the other type of thing.

I’m also into speaking at that is driving my results big time. It’s something I just recently started focusing on and I’m excited about those opportunities. In fact, I’m speaking at a large conference in Dallas, TX in September.

The one area you brought up I really want to explore is writing in newspapers and journals. I guess I just need to figure out the angle and how to find those relationships that will open those doors.

Great post Niall, you really got me thinking about a couple of things in my strategies that I need to focus on a little more.

    Sincerely,
    Don Purdum

For me, investing in professional design can sure can create a good outcome in selling a book, and eBook or a web design. People usually attracted to interesting and creative designs or covers, hence, consider it as one of the things you need to do.

My second favorite here is “Connect With Other Bloggers” it’s important and connections or engagement with fellow bloggers is as powerful as we think.
